China with its rapid development is also one of the countries where more trash is produced with discarded materials used in construction sites. All kinds of materials can be found in the streets and the cleaning process is usually slow and ineffective. This installation uses the view from a door inside a warehouse as a starting point. A traditional Chinese landscape with a mountain and bamboos can be seen outside the door. This bucolic view receives a man-made mirror lake with the final view being framed by bars. The choice of materials, the placement of the piece using the door frames and the mirror frames to suggest something controlled and the dust and water drawing contribute to reflect on intimacy, transience, social-politics, and ecology.

FIND WHAT YOU LOVE AND LET IT KILL YOU

This installation is composed by a black room with a sound frequency involving the audience while the red neon on the central wall irradiates creating a visual red atmosphere in the space. As a reflection an almost hidden LED display on the back wall with the words “假作真时真亦假，无为有处有还无” quoted from the book by Cao Xueqin, and translated as “Truth becomes fiction when the fiction's true; Real becomes not-real when the unreal's real.”


THE DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER

The starting point of this project goes back to the ancient Chinese copper coins where an outer circle and an inner square suggest ideas of flexibility and order as a definition of the world. The resulting site-responsive piece simulates a Zen stone garden with a central mirror-like stainless steel monolith that embodies and blends with the environment where it is placed. It is a space to stop, contemplate, ponder, breathe, and confront a neglected dimension of our experience.
