Khanyisile Mawhayi (b. 1998) is an artist and curator from Kagiso, South Africa. She works mostly in photography, printmaking, and painting and is interested in institutional critique, ideas surrounding opacity and transparency and the various influences on identity formation.
Her work has been included in the Kampala Biennale, also also also and and and, an exhibition curated by Luvuyo Equiano Nyawose for the Insititute of Creative Arts as well as Stevenson Gallery’s Stage project. She has written text for the Africa South Arts Initiative and co-curated a show titled Sphere with Lesole Tauatswala.
She recently completed her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand. She has worked as a co-conspirator with Tracey Rose in the Kampala Biennale 2020 and at The Bag Factory Studios, as an admin assistant intern and has done curatorial work for the BLVCK BLOCK Collective where she also coordinated their online residency. She currently works as a curatorial assistant at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Arts Africa.
