**More Art’s Engaging Artists Commission is an opportunity for early career artists focused on the incubation and commissioning of a public art project and carries an $8000 award to realize the project, plus curatorial, conceptual, budgetary, and logistical mentorship.**

  
**What to expect**

$8000 will be awarded to one socially-engaged art project to take place in a public space in New York City. The selected project must culminate in a public art installation, event, series, collaboration, or engagement in 2026.

More Art’s curatorial team will provide guidance in refining project concepts, developing public programming, and navigating the logistics of working in public space. Artists will also have opportunities to present their work in critical dialogues and events that further contextualize the project within broader conversations on history, memory, and social justice.

The EA Commission is open to early-career artists, including individuals and collectives, based in the U.S. with a demonstrated interest in public and socially engaged art. Prior experience working in public art is not required, but applicants should have a strong conceptual foundation and a commitment to engaging with communities through their work.

**The project will begin with an incubation and research phase in September of 2025, leading to a launch in spring or summer 2026.** Additional funding beyond the $8000 is not available, and artists are encouraged to take an honorarium for their work. As such, proposals should be scaled to appropriately reflect the calendar and budget offered for the commission.

Artists are also invited to participate in workshops, artist talks, and peer network support with the EA Fellows.

  
**Theme**

**In 2026, the Commission will address the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, a moment that invites celebration, reflection and a pause. This year we will focus on revealing histories that have been forgotten, suppressed, or overwritten, particularly those of Indigenous cultures, diasporic communities, and other marginalized groups whose stories have been erased or displaced from the dominant narrative.** Along with spotlighting forgotten histories of displacement and forced migration, we are also interested in proposals that engage with the transformation of land and water due to colonization, industrialization, and extraction in New York City and beyond.

Projects may take many forms, including immersive sound walks and tours, temporary sculptural or site-responsive installations, performance-based works and interventions, polyvocal storytelling, and community-engaged workshops or participatory actions. While the format is open, projects should be deeply engaged with site, accessible to the public, and create opportunities for collective reflection, interaction, or historical reimagining. Projects that incorporate community participation and intergenerational storytelling, performance, and oral history as a means of reclaiming erased histories are of particular interest.

**Budget + resource allocation**

The $8000 award should cover all elements of research and development, production, exhibition, display, and documentation. A project budget is requested as part of the application.

Engaging Artists Commission

**More Art’s year-long Engaging Artists Fellowship is designed to help emerging NYC artists and community organizers develop and sustain a socially engaged and public art practice.**

The Fellowship program curriculum includes mentorship, peer feedback, community building, workshops and artist talks tailored to the interests/needs of the cohort, and access to programming opportunities in New York City.

The infrastructure and laboratory provided by More Art allow selected emerging and underrepresented artists to gain a deeper understanding of the history and vitality of public and socially engaged art. This fellowship encourages artists to not only expand and to develop their social practice but also to promote use of socially engaged art as a tool for change.

EA Fellows will finish with a culminating presentation at the end of the fellowship year. Many fellowship projects become multi-year initiatives, and, as such, the culminating presentation is not a conclusion of the fellows’ work but rather an opportunity to highlight their budding creative practice and project journey.

**Who can apply?**

The Engaging Artists Fellowship offers insights and strategies to collaborate with communities, rebuild and shape our society, and build sustainable careers. More Art welcomes applications from NYC artists of all disciplines, including but not limited to: visual artists, performers, choreographers, designers, and new media artists. Currently enrolled undergraduate students may not apply. Collective applications are welcome. An interest in socially engaged practice is crucial.

The Fellowship is a program for incubation, experimentation, collaboration, and implementation stages of early socially engaged public art projects. We understand and encourage artists who see the combination of socially engaged work and creative practice as a long-term commitment no matter how much of a body of work they’ve generated previously.

  
**Qualifications**

* Interest in More Art’s work and eagerness to learn (no prior experience in public art or socially engaged art necessary!)
* Willingness to present, support, and attend work produced in community and public settings, as opposed to galleries and museums
* Strong commitment to More Art’s values, including but not limited to social justice and public engagement, inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and collaboration
* Commitment to intersectional thinking and artmaking
* Willingness to act with care and respect toward all collaborators, including More Art staff, other Fellows, and community members
* Eagerness to contribute to a nurturing environment with and for Fellows
* Interest in establishing and/or sustaining partnerships with community-based organizations, advocacy groups, agencies, neighborhoods, places, individuals and/or groups of New Yorkers
* Belief that art and artists are integral to empowering social justice movements by creatively illuminating social issues, engaging new audiences in activism, and catalyzing public discourse

  
**Fellowship output + expectations**

Over the course of the Fellowship year, Fellows are expected to:

* Develop a Theory (or theories!) of Change, with help from the Fellowship Leader
* Develop a set of individualized goals for the Fellowship year
* Develop a culminating presentation (public, or otherwise), with assistance from More Art staff, of or about the work you’ve developed during the More Art Fellowship
* Attend monthly 1-to-1 individualized mentorship meetings with More Art staff
* Attend monthly in-person and virtual workshops/artist talks

  

Each Fellow will receive **monthly 1-to-1 individualized mentorship sessions** with More Art staff. Additionally, the Fellowship Leader will facilitate **monthly generative workshops, discussions, and collaborative feedback sessions**, tailored to the practices and needs of the cohort. The program will culminate in **culminating presentations by each Fellow**, public or otherwise, of or about work developed over the course of the program. At the end of the year, **Fellows can expect to receive a small stipend of at least $250 each** (each member of a collective will receive a stipend) to be used for expenses related to their practice. Fellows can also **expect to spend 15 hours per month on average** on More Art-related work.

Bushwick Gallery: Echoes of the Earth: Environmental Art

As part of the **regional ICC development project in Indianocean** , financed by the **French Development Agency** (AFD), **the IOC** is launching the second cycle of awarding the "Tafà" scholarship in order to contribute to the professionalization of the sector in the countries of the region.

  
The "Tafà" scholarship aims to:

1. **Professionalize cultural actors** in the ICC value chain: creation, production, distribution and dissemination in order to strengthen ICCs at the national and regional level.
2. **Develop the academic offering** by strengthening the teaching staff of the countries and promoting regional training.

Ten chosen works will be reproduced in DIN A5 format (high-quality digital print on offset paper, non-editioned) and shared directly with attendees in their personal spaces—prompting reflection on the most urgent issues shaping Europe’s future. **What Selected Artists Receive**

1. License Fee: Each of the ten selected artists will receive a modest licensing fee (100€) in recognition of their work.

Visions for Europe: A Special Project by Der Greif

Cortona On The Move and the BarTur Photo Award are proud to announce their partnership to present the Cortona On The Move | BarTur Grant. Supported by the Visual Storytellers Fund, this initiative aims to support photographers worldwide by providing grants and resources to create compelling documentary photo essays. The Grant focuses on projects that illuminate urgent social, environmental, economic, and cultural issues of our time.

  
Photographers are invited to submit proposals for in-progress documentary projects that align with the fund's central themes. The grand prize winner and the two emerging photographer winners will be announced at Cortona On The Move Festival in July 2025\. The winners will have nine months to complete their project, with the final work submitted by 15th March 2026\. The completed work will be exhibited at the 2026 edition of Cortona On The Move, along with the two winning works by emerging photographers, offering a global stage to amplify their story. The Grant will cover the travel and accommodation for the winners to attend the opening ceremony of Cortona On The Move 2026.

Call for Artists: the International Exhibition “Form 2025”

**The City of Commerce City and the Commerce City Cultural Council are seeking to purchase artwork from Colorado artists, or artists who reside in Colorado Region. Local and regional artists will be prioritized in the selection. The artwork is to be placed at the high traffic corner of 60th and Monaco at Pioneer Park in Commerce City, CO.**

  
The City of Commerce City and the Commerce City Cultural Council seek to purchase artwork to pay tribute to the previous equine statue that stood in its place, which honored the late Cocklebur horse owned by the Conter family. The Conter family owned the land that Pioneer Park now sits on, which is now a major community gathering space. Cocklebur was the horse of Catherine Conter, who was reprimanded by the city for keeping the horse on her property in the 1970s. The horse became a symbol for defiance, and was eventually welcomed back to the farm property. Cocklebur and Catherine were intertwined and spent more than 18 years together. No one is still living from the Conter family line, but Commerce City still honors the family’s history and their long lasting impact on the area. 

  
**THEMES/CRITERIA**

The art selection committee for Cocklebur Reimagined seeks artwork that honors the community’s historical horse. The artwork should celebrate the natural history of the area, Commerce City community and unity, evoke joy and delight, and have a pleasing and uplifting effect on those who see it. It should be appropriate for all ages to enjoy. The artwork should be difficult to remove from the site.

  

**Budget: up to $20,000**

The budget for the site shall be inclusive of all costs associated with the public art project including, but not limited to artist fees, artwork, and installation. The artist is expected to work with the city to determine the specifications.

Cocklebur Reimagined at Pioneer Park

BREEDBEELD Open Screen is **a free cinema for anyone who wants to show a short film.** There is no jury that makes a selection and no restriction on genre or level. Open Screen is an 'open' concept. **So everyone can participate** , although we do aim for a certain balance in the program. Afterwards we go to the cinema café for a nice chat.

Open Screen #15 will take place in De Cinema in Antwerp on Tuesday 29 April 2025\. From 8pm to 10pm we will show your entries and afterwards anyone who wants to can chat about the films.

The City of Calgary Public Art Program invites members of the Tsuut’ina First Nation to apply to this paid mentorship opportunity. Individual artists who have an interest in curation are encouraged to apply. Prior curatorial experience is not required. This opportunity is open to Tsuut’ina Nation members.

The selected individual will work closely with the Indigenous curator, public art conservator, public art liaison, and collections specialist to curate a Tsuut’ina-specific, loanable exhibit that will be available for communities and schools to host. The mentorship will include all aspects of working on a public art exhibit, including (but not limited to) budgeting, artist visits, exhibit design, and curatorial writing. The curator will work with artists from the community to reflect their voices through the exhibit. The curator’s own artwork will not be eligible for the exhibit.

The curated exhibit must be created within a set budget and will include between 4–12 artworks or art objects. The curatorial mentee will work under the guidance of the Indigenous curator to create a theme and select artworks to be purchased for the exhibit. They will also work with the public art team to create a portable exhibit and ensure the artworks are protected during moves and travel.

.The curatorial mentee receives an all-inclusive, maximum budget of $7,000.00 + GST (if applicable) inclusive of travel and expenses. This does NOT include an artwork purchase budget.

The total budget includes, but is not limited to supplies and materials, consultation, time for public engagement, travel, insurance and design fees.

The mentee will be responsible for their project budget and will be paid based on deliverables as per their Scope and Fee contract
