2025 dance research nrw residencies

The international scholarship programme offers dancers, performers and choreographers the opportunity to spend several weeks a year researching independently of a production.

The focus is on aesthetic and social spaces of exploration and discourse. The artistic research projects should relate to one or more member cities of the NRW KULTURsekretariat, with the specific possibilities on site. The focus is on the development of research-related skills and sustainable partnerships.

How can artistic research bring worlds together? What working principles and ethical foundations are developed in the process?

In 2025, the NRWKS will once again offer dance artists a total of four multi-week residencies for thematic, production-independent research. The focus is on aesthetic and social spaces for exploration and discourse. The main focus is on the development of research-related skills and sustainable partnerships, with increased consideration of the aspects of sustainability and participation beyond physical presence.

The programme is explicitly not production-oriented. The focus is therefore not on the realisation of concepts, but on researching artistic themes and developing working methods.

Tanzrecherche NRW supports interaction with the local environment and the dialogue of different competences as well as intercultural and transdisciplinary exchange. The focus is on the development of individual practice towards a community of practice. The programme promotes sustainable networking aimed at developing professional skills and stimulating learning effects.
