This is a tribute to the power of the eve gene in my mother's DNA, a celebration of our origins from a black woman and our eventual return to the embrace of the earth, which I believe embodies the essence of a black goddess.

MALLA ANCENSTRAL ART "BLACK WOMAN GOD"

The inspiration for these pieces comes from the deep, mysterious aura of my grandfather, the luscious black hair of my grandmother, and the enchantment that arose from their era. Immigrants carried their deities with them, giving birth to a unique environment where the spiritual realm mirrored the physical world. This is the perspective through which "Detroit Black Bottom" is viewed.

Growing up in Detroit as an artist with a diverse background, I have been influenced by my strong African Nigerian roots, Gullah Geechee ancestry, and Mandan Native heritage. Witnessing the blend of cultures around me, I have often pondered on how these diverse influences can spread across the globe, maintaining their uniqueness while sharing similarities. Through my art, I aim to pay tribute to the often overlooked contributions of early African explorers in seeding different cultures around the world. I strive to imagine and depict the stories and journeys that may have shaped these cultural exchanges, highlighting the beauty and richness of each unique influence.
