To cultivate cultural and creative talent by expanding global perspectives and revitalizing artistic practices, the inaugural 2025 edition of "Reimagining Beyond Context Residency Program," presented by Drive-Through Residency Exchange, is now open for applications.

This year’s program introduces an unprecedented collaboration between the United States and Taiwan, selecting 16 distinguished artists and cultural creators to participate in the residency program of “Reimagining Beyond Context.” By leveraging a cross-border space exchange model, this program enables participants to explore and reinterpret foreign cultures from within their own workspaces and living environments, transcending traditional barriers such as language and financial constraints while achieving meaningful international engagement.

DTA (Drive-Through Art) eliminates the need for studio rental fees during the residency, emphasizing cultural exchange through the integration of foreign influences into each participant's unique creative practice. This model not only alleviates financial burdens but also encourages artists to maximize the potential of their existing resources, unlocking new creative possibilities and fostering diverse artistic expressions.

Selected artists will be invited to participate in a group, showcasing the work created during their time in the DTA residency program. Curators will collaborate closely with the artists to present their work through an exhibition. This hybrid format will underscore the program’s success while further promoting international artistic collaboration and cultural exchange.

Program Timeline

Introduction and Exchange:

Artists will receive both tangible and intangible data from their paired international counterparts. Within 15 days, they are tasked with reinterpreting this information in their living or studio space. Using their interpretation, imagination, and understanding, both artists will create a unique atmosphere based on the provided data with their creativity and subjective perspectives.

Exchange Day:

During the first week of the process, an online exchange session will be held for all participating artists. This will take place anonymously to encourage minimal yet meaningful cultural and artistic interaction.

Outcome Presentation:

After the 15-day recreation period, artists will document their completed space and content. They will also respond to the residency experience using various creative formats. These responses, along with related documentation, will be shared on the official DTA website and our social media.

Exhibition:

The final works will be showcased both physically and virtually in the United States and Taiwan. This initiative demonstrates the possibility of achieving meaningful international artistic exchange without the need for travel, expenses, or language proficiency.
